Meet Our Ultimate Warrior Blanket Recipients 6/6/13
My last post was one month ago. I am sorry for those that regularly follow us. Things have been busy this past month preparing for the Boobie-Q. However, just because you haven’t heard from me, doesn’t mean that the work that we do has ceased. We have been receiving squares regularly and also have many more volunteers picking up squares from my basement to stitch in order to keep the pile down. It has been wonderful and I thank each and every one of you who continue to be involved in this project. We have distributed 13 more blankets this month. Here are the ultimate warriors from the month of May.
Mark was nominated after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. His family describes Mark as a wonderful person and a proud and loving father of two school age children. Recently he has undergone surgery and will soon be starting treatment for this disease. I love the line by his sister and brother in law, “Fight hard, fight strong - and remember no one fights alone!” <3
Patty was nominated by her friend the day she started treatment. Patty is ready for the fight against stage 3 nodular sclerosis Hodgkin’s lymphoma. She has received her blanket and is feeling the love from all of us.
Joyce is on the other side of the cancer battle as of late. Joyce used to be an esthetician and volunteers her time in Tom’s River NJ to give facials to women who have had breast cancer. She is now the one who is deserving of the facial. Joyce was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and is recovering from her recent mastectomy. Her dear friend Donna describes how special Joyce is to her and is truly a special person who is in the hearts and thoughts of many.
Janet, 62 from Stephenson NY, is going through chemo for small cell lung cancer. The chemo is very aggressive and has caused Janet to not only lose her hair, but also deal with other complications. Janet’s sister has been crocheting for us, not knowing that one day she would need to request a blanket for someone so close to her. Although Janet’s cancer is not curable, she is fighting. Janet has received her blanket and is feeling our arms wrapping her with love to comfort and support her during this time.
An anonymous mother of 2 young children is currently battling breast cancer. Her family is not fully aware of what she is going through so a few close friends of hers nominated this strong young woman for a blanket. We hope she knows that she is not alone in her fight and there are so many people here that can help. It is already so difficult to fight this disease, but to do it in secret must be all that more difficult. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Denise was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. She is very loved by her family and friends. She is so loving to visit her 104 year old grandmother every weekend! But now Denise must try to save her energy to battle the cancer beast. We hope our blanket can help with restoring some strength along the way.
Donna, who resides in CA, is an amazing woman. She has been through many difficult times in the past 2 years with losing a child and now being diagnosed with breast cancer. She will be walking the Susan G Komen 3 Day in L.A. this September for the people in her life that have been stricken by this disease. But it is time that Donna knows there are people caring for her as well.
6 men and women in the Geisinger Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre. A family member has been receiving chemo for ovarian cancer at Geisinger. During her first treatment, she took her very own blanket with her to the treatment center and received glowing remarks about it. Her daughter-in-law, who is a cervical cancer survivor, goes along for the ride with Esther. She knows how important it is to have such a beautiful special blanket on your lap during these times. Because of this reason, I asked if she would please distribute 6 blankets during the next treatment. So the Thursday after Memorial Day, Sharon gave out 6 of our blankets with our homemade cards. The men and women (and Sharon) weeped with joy, and pain, over the thoughtfulness behind each and every stitch and the overwhelming love that exudes from every blanket. I hope that these men and women stumbled upon our site one day so that they can see all of the people involved in this beautiful project.
